Bistra Mountain

Bistra is a mountain in Macedonia, It is famous for its pastures and as it border with Mavrovo Lake most of the mountain belongs to the National Park Mavrovo. The climbing to the highest peak "Medenica" is done in the standard direction from probably the most famous village Galichnik, which is located 1350 meters above sea level. There are thirty wild horses in the pastures of Bistra, which are coming near the pastoral sheepfolds. There are only few of these breed of horses left on Bistra because of the uncontrolled hunting and taming. There is a big ski centre on Bistra. The well-prepared tracks are a true delight for the skiers, with seven ski-lifts available for them to cruise through the vast snow slopes.
