Shar mountain

The Šar Mountains  is a mountain range in the Balkans that extends from southern Kosovo and the northwest of the Republic of Macedonia to northeastern Albania.

The Šar Mountains have a total area of 1600 km. 56,25% of that area is in the Republic of Macedonia, 43.12% in Kosovo, and 0,63% in Albania. There are three plains Vraca,Sirinic and Rudoka. The system is about 80 km (50 mi) long and 10–20 km (6–12 mi) wide.The mountain massif has been formed in the Tertiary Period. The most upper parts of the mountains have been frozen with large amounts of ice and snow.

It includes several high peaks:

• Titov Vrv (2,747 m/9,012 ft)
• Mal Turčin (2,707 m/8,881 ft)
• Bakerdan (2,704 m/8,871 ft)
• Bristavec (2,675 m/8,776 ft)
• Great Rudoka (2,658 m/8,720 ft)
• Peskovi (2,651 m/8,698 ft)
• Small Rudoka (2,629 m/8,625 ft)
• Džini Beg (2,610 m/8,563 ft)
• Lake Peak (2,604 m/8,543 ft)
• Karabunar (2,600 m/8,530 ft)
• White Lake Peak (2,590 m/8,497 ft)

Vegetation on the mountains includes crops up to around 1,000 m (3,281 ft), forests up to 1,700 m (5,577 ft), and above that lie high pastures which encompass around 550 km² (212 sq mi). The Šar Mountains are the largest compact area covered with pastures on the European continent. They are most known as the origin of the dog breed Šarplaninac, which was bred on these pastures.

Sar Mountain has enormous potential for the development of several types of tourism, as well as for the development of mountain sports: skiing, mountaineering, climbing, mountain biking, Paragliding, sport hunting and fishing, and more. When you mention tourism Shara, all first to mind for us the name of the resort of Sunny Hill. Sunny Hill is situated in the heart of Sharr mountain massif. It is located at an average altitude of 1700 m. Remote Tetovo is 18 km by road. The average number of days under snow hat is 135 days; during the ski season, the height of the snow cover is about 100 cm, and sometimes that number goes up to 150 cm. Sunny Hill has two cable cars and nine ski lifts, whose total length is 10,972 m, with a capacity of 8000 skiers per hour. Sunny Hill built several hotels and resorts, as well as hundreds of private holiday homes and there are mountain home, and about 10 other buildings. Almost every year runs Ezerino Orlova path that takes place within the Ceripashina traditional Sharplaninski Cup giant slalom and slalom. Sunny Hill has opportunities to build downhill ski and running trails. Sunny Hill offers many more features than the existing, but due to lack of finance, it is not yet build.
